Art Purchase Program for Schools

Thanks to sponsors Busey Bank and Merrill Lynch (Metro East IL Office), four schools will receive Art Cash this year to participate in the program.

The ART Purchase Program was started a few years ago with the simple idea to get quality art inside schools as it can be said that rather than just teaching to paint or draw you should awaken the senses to observe, to feel, to create and move.

The program provides Art Cash ranging between $1,000 – $2,000 (depending on enrollment size) that can be used to purchase Art by students at the May show.  A student panel is to be selected by the school and supervised by the Art Teacher or other Teacher/Administrator.  Most of the schools follow up with an assembly so the students can explain to the other students about the pieces they selected and why they choose them and why they might not have selected others. The students become temporary little docents.  They spend time with the artists when they purchase their pieces so they understand better what the type of medium it is and how the artist creates it.  Our artists love working with the students.
